This year I'm taking part in a couple of quilt alongs. In February I found out about the Splendid Sampler which started on Feb 14th and the aim is to make 100 blocks over a year. So far there have been 13 blocks issued, along with some bonus blocks. The blocks are 6" finished and many designs have many tiny pieces in them, so it is an excellent chance to expand and learn. I'm making two colourways so far, one is made from a variety of scraps and fat quarters in my fabric stash and the other is for a baby quilt that I started making with scraps from a work-in-progress baby quilt and that will only be 25 blocks before I sash the blocks and make it into a quilt.
The second QAL is the modern hst sampler from blossom heart quilts. The blocks are bigger (12" finished) and are designs using hst. Since this was a new skill for me, I jumped right in and have finished the first 6 blocks so far. I'm using some fat quarters from a design line by Riley Blake and adding a few bits from other favorite fabrics.
